Piper, a 2-year-old lab mix, is a sweetheart who is a true "people person:" she loves to be around her owners or anyone new that she meets. If you let her, Piper will sit next to you or on you, as cuddling is one of her favorite things in the world. Piper has a lot of energy and loves to exercise. She enjoys the outdoors, especially going for walks/runs and exploring in the woods. Piper can run like the wind! In the winter, she likes to frolic in the snow, and the rest of the year she loves to find new sticks to carry around or to play fetch with you. She is no stranger to water, either. She does well at dog parks and dog daycare. On leash, Piper gets along with most male dogs, but at times she can be reactive to females or other young dogs. However, she has been trained about this and takes her cues from her owner when she is in this situation. She has lived with a male dog of a similar age for the last 18 months and they are best friends. Piper is fully trained and has gone through many classes with her previous owners (Basic I and II, Intermediate I and II, and Manners). She knows the commands "sit", "down", "stay", "come", "stand", "touch", "leave it", and "take it" with confidence. Piper has an emergency recall that can be used if necessary (and "come" has not worked), yelling "Hurry! Hurry! Hurry!" will absolutely get her to sprint back to you (where she will be expecting some serious treats!). Piper knows "let's go" and "heel" on the leash, but at times these commands need a little work. Piper is strong willed, so commands need be practiced with regularity or she may "forget" how to use them! She knows she can only come on furniture when given the command "okay". If she is not allowed on the furniture she will lay at your feet. Piper makes a great doorbell and will alert you when anyone comes close to your home, but is well mannered when people are visiting. Whoever adopts Piper will get instruction on all of her training so her transition will be easy. Piper does not like children, so can only go to a household with children over the age of 12. Piper also does not like small animals so she cannot be in a home with cats or other small pets. WAG only accepts applications from New Hampshire residents and from residents of communities in Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts that are on the New Hampshire border.
